Telangana’s Folk Festival Bonalu Kicks Off with Devotion and Celebration
The vibrant and historic Bonalu festival commenced in spectacular fashion at the Golconda Fort in Hyderabad, marking the beginning of a month-long celebration steeped in Telangana’s folk traditions. Devotees thronged the Sri Jagadamba Mahankali temple, where rituals and offerings, including the first Bonam, were performed with traditional fervour. Women in bright attire, rhythmic dances by Potharajus, and fire performances highlighted the spiritual and cultural grandeur of this annual celebration.
The Bonalu festival 2025 began on June 26 at the Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Temple atop Golconda Fort, drawing massive public participation and state-level recognition. The state government’s active involvement, including a ₹20 crore grant for temples, and the presence of prominent political leaders, underscores the festival’s significance.
