This Veteran Appointed Head Coach of the Indian Senior Men’s Football Team
In a historic decision, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on August 1, 2025, appointed Khalid Jamil as the head coach of the Senior Men’s Indian National Team. The announcement came after a virtual meeting of the AIFF Executive Committee, where extensive discussions were held regarding the future direction of Indian football.
The appointment was made on the recommendation of the Technical Committee (TC), chaired by IM Vijayan, a Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee. During the meeting, a SWOT analysis of the three shortlisted coaches — Khalid Jamil, Stephen Constantine, and Štefan Tarkovič — was presented by Technical Director Syed Sabir Pasha and National Teams Director Subrata Paul.
Veteran coaches Armando Colaco and Shabbir Ali, both highly respected in Indian football, voiced their strong preference for an Indian coach. They emphasized that Indian coaches must be given equal opportunities to prove themselves at the national level.

The virtual meeting was presided over by AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey, with Vice President NA Haris, Treasurer Kipa Ajay, and multiple members of the Executive and Technical Committees in attendance. After detailed deliberations, the majority voted in favour of Khalid Jamil, despite a few members suggesting Stephen Constantine.
This decision marks a renewed commitment to nurturing Indian coaching talent and trusting homegrown expertise to lead the national side.
