Tiger Woods Honored with USGA's Prestigious Bob Jones Award
Legendary golfer Tiger Woods has been selected to receive the Bob Jones Award, the highest honour bestowed by the United States Golf Association (USGA). This prestigious award recognizes Woods’ dedication to sportsmanship, his respect for the traditions of the game, and his significant charitable endeavors.
While Woods is widely celebrated for his on-course achievements – including 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour victories – the Bob Jones Award acknowledges a more holistic view of his impact on the sport.
Sportsmanship and Tradition: Woods’ commitment to fair play and respect for the game mirrors the values embodied by Bob Jones himself, a nine-time USGA champion and one of golf’s most respected figures.
Philanthropic Impact: Off the course, Woods’ foundation, the TGR Foundation (originally founded with his father, Earl), provides educational opportunities and STEM-based learning for students. He has also established a golf course design firm.
Woods’ journey in golf is a remarkable story of perseverance and triumph. From his rise as a junior phenomenon to his dominance as a professional, Woods has consistently overcome challenges with tenacity, mental strength, and unwavering dedication. He continues to inspire a new generation of golfers while staying true to the spirit of the game.
Woods joins an esteemed list of past Bob Jones Award recipients, including golfing legends Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Mickey Wright, and Ben Hogan, along with former President George H.W. Bush.
The Bob Jones Award will be formally presented to Woods on June 12th during the week of the U.S. Open held at Pinehurst Resort’s famed Course No. 2 in North Carolina.
