Meet the Key Faces in C. Joseph Vijay’s First Tamil Nadu Cabinet
The swearing-in of C. Joseph Vijay as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister marks one of the biggest political shifts in the State in nearly six decades. For the first time since 1967, Tamil Nadu is being governed by a party outside the traditional DMK-AIADMK power structure.
The rise of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) from a newly launched political outfit to the ruling party has transformed the State’s political landscape. After emerging as the single-largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections with 108 seats, TVK secured outside support to cross the majority mark and form the government.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, where Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to Vijay and his Cabinet colleagues. Massive crowds, party workers, film personalities and political leaders attended the event, underlining the scale of public attention around TVK’s rise.
Vijay, popularly known as “Thalapathy” in Tamil cinema, described his government as the beginning of a “new era of secular and social justice politics” in Tamil Nadu.
The first TVK Cabinet has been designed as a compact but politically strategic team, combining experienced administrators, regional leaders, and young political faces.
N. Anand is considered one of Vijay’s closest organisational strategists. Representing Thiyagarayanagar, Anand is expected to play a central role in administration and coordination inside the new government.
Aadhav Arjuna emerged as one of TVK’s aggressive campaign faces during the Assembly elections. His inclusion signals Vijay’s emphasis on youth-driven politics and urban voter outreach.
Former IRS officer K. G. Arunraaj brings administrative and financial expertise into the Cabinet. Political observers believe he may be entrusted with an important governance-oriented portfolio.
Veteran leader K. A. Sengottaiyan is among the most experienced faces in the Cabinet. His induction gives the government a balance between youthful leadership and seasoned political experience.
P. Venkataramanan has emerged as a key Chennai-region political face for TVK. His appointment reflects the party’s urban governance focus.
C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar was one of the prominent grassroots campaigners for TVK during the election. His Cabinet entry rewards organisational loyalty and booth-level mobilisation.
Rajmohan Arumugam represents the party’s effort to strengthen governance in central Chennai and urban administrative zones.
T. K. Prabhu is viewed as a strong organisational figure from southern Tamil Nadu and adds regional balance to the Cabinet structure.
S. Keerthana is among the youngest faces in the ministry and represents TVK’s attempt to promote women leaders into key political roles.
The formation of the Vijay-led Cabinet is politically significant for several reasons:
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the new administration faces major challenges:
Political analysts believe the first 100 days of the TVK government will determine whether Vijay can successfully transition from cinema icon to long-term political administrator.
