Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya recently inaugurated ‘Prasadam,’ the nation’s first healthy and hygienic food street, in a grand ceremony at Neelkanth Van, Mahakal Lok, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The momentous event took place in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, Minister of State for Public Health and Family Welfare Narendra Shivaji Patel, and Lok Sabha Member Anil Firojiya.
Addressing the gathering, Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative. He stated, ‘This street will provide pure and clean food to the devotees.’ Dr Mandaviya emphasized that the ‘PRASADAM’ initiative aims to connect common citizens across the nation with pure and safe local and traditional food. He believes that this effort will align people, both residents and tourists, to adopt safe and healthy eating habits.
Spanning an impressive 939 square meters, “Prasadam” stands as a symbol of holistic development. Positioned near the Mahakaleshwar Temple, it is designed not just as a food street but as a multifaceted destination contributing to various aspects of community life. The food street comprises 17 shops, each offering a unique culinary experience.
“Prasadam” goes beyond offering a culinary delight. It provides an array of facilities, including a dedicated kids’ play area, drinking water facility, CCTV surveillance, ample parking, public conveniences, and spacious seating areas. These facilities are aimed at enhancing the overall experience for visitors and locals alike.
Dr Mandaviya and Dr Yadav also took the opportunity to inaugurate 17 civil works, which included health units and labs. The duo launched the Mannhit app for mental health screening, demonstrating a commitment to overall well-being beyond just physical health.
The event showcased various innovations in the field of health and food safety. “The DART Book” by FSSAI for at-home food adulteration tests was released, emphasizing the importance of food safety. Additionally, a mobile food testing van named “Food Safety on Wheels” was launched, taking safety measures to the streets.
In his remarks, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav praised the “Prasadam” initiative for its role in ensuring clean and healthy food for all. He highlighted its potential to boost tourism, preserve traditions, and foster community engagement. The inauguration of “Prasadam” marks a significant step towards building a healthier and more vibrant nation, where pure and hygienic food is accessible to one and all.
