Union Minister Inaugurates National Speed Breeding Crop Facility At NABI

Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of Science & Technology, inaugurated the National Speed Breeding Crop Facility at NABI (National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute), Mohali. This initiative aligns with PM Modi’s vision of increasing farmers’ income and promoting Agri StartUps.

Biotech Seeds Facility

  • The facility serves all Indian states, with a focus on North Indian states like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir.
  • It speeds up crop improvement programs by developing advanced varieties resilient to climate change.

Climate-Resistant Crops

  • NABI’s technology enables the development of climate-resistant crops, freeing farmers from seasonal constraints.
  • Farmers can now farm year-round, improving food security and economic stability.

Empowering India’s Bio-Economy

  • Dr. Jitendra Singh praised biotech innovations like tulip cultivation and the 108-petal lotus, highlighting their role in economic growth.
  • The government’s commitment to bio-manufacturing and bio-foundry sectors will strengthen India’s bio-economy.

Vision for Agricultural Progress

  • India’s projected rise as the world’s third-largest economy highlights the vital role of the agriculture sector.
  • The government’s proactive stance on bio-economy is evident in budget allocations for bio-manufacturing schemes.

Facility’s Impact and Future Prospects

  • The goal of the facility is to make new types of crops faster, so farmers can grow what people need more quickly.
  • NABI is also helping places like Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana by giving them new ways to farm and make more money.
