Expenses incurred at the time of marriage may be too high for financially strapped families. In order to help such financially weak families, the Government of Uttar Pradesh offers the UP Shadi Anudan Yojana.

The benefit under the scheme is that eligible families can receive an amount of ₹20,000 towards the cost of the marriage of their daughter, based on the category and eligibility criteria applicable. The scheme is meant for eligible families belonging to categories like SC, ST, OBC and financially weaker General.

What is UP Shadi Anudan Yojana 2026?

UP Shadi Anudan Yojana is the marriage aid scheme by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for providing support to economically poor families to bear the cost of their daughter’s wedding.

The scheme was initiated in 2017. The eligible applicant can get an aid of ₹20,000 for each daughter and this facility is available only for up to two daughters in a single family, as per the description of the scheme.

The scheme is administered through various departments as per the category of the applicant, including the Other Backward Classes Welfare Department, Social Welfare Department and Scheduled Tribes Development Department.

Objectives of UP Shadi Anudan Yojana Scheme

One of the main objectives of the scheme is to offer monetary support to those families who may find it difficult to bear marriage costs.

Another objective is to change the social attitude towards girls positively by motivating parents to educate their children.

It is particularly focused on helping those economically weaker families belonging to selected communities by taking care of the financial burden of a girl’s marriage.

Eligibility Criteria for UP Shadi Anudan Yojana 2026

There are different eligibility criteria for different categories of applicants. Applicants must be the permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh and need to fulfill the criteria related to cast and income.

Criteria for OBC Category

The conditions mentioned for applicants in the category of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) are,

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The applicant must be the member of any backward class category.
  • The annual family income should be less than ₹1 lakh.
  • There would be provision of assistance for a maximum of two daughters per family.

Criteria for SC and General Categories

For the applicants who fall in the categories of SC and General, the conditions are as follows,

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The applicant must be in the SC or General category.
  • The annual income of the family should be not more than ₹46,080 in case of rural areas and ₹56,460 in case of urban areas.
  • A provision would be there for providing assistance to a maximum of two daughters per family.

Criteria for ST Category

For applicants in the category of Scheduled Tribes (ST), the conditions will be,

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The applicant must be in the ST category.
  • The annual family income should be not more than ₹46,080 in case of rural areas and ₹56,460 in case of urban areas.

Documents Needed for UP Shadi Anudan Yojana

Applicants must have their documents ready before filling the application form online. These documents are required as per the scheme are as follows,

  • Aadhar card of the bride and her family
  • Certificate of caste, if any
  • Passbook of the bank
  • Domicile certificate of Uttar Pradesh
  • Income certificate
  • Marriage certificate
  • Proof of age of the bride and groom
  • Passport size photograph

Minimum age of the bride is 18 years and minimum age of the groom is 21 years as per scheme details.
