Update on Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) and Related Schemes

PMJDY has crossed a significant milestone with over 52 crore accounts opened, holding a balance of Rs 2.3 lakh crore as of July 19, 2024. Launched in 2014 to provide financial inclusion, the scheme has seen strong adoption, especially among women and in rural areas.

Key Statistics

Accounts and Deposits: 52.81 crore Jan-Dhan accounts with a deposit balance of Rs. 2,30,792 crore.

Women Accounts: 29.37 crore accounts (55.6%) belong to women.

Rural and Semi-Urban Coverage: 35.15 crore accounts (66.6%) are in rural and semi-urban areas.

Social Security Schemes

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY): 20.48 crore enrolments providing life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh for death due to any reason.

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY): 45.08 crore enrolments offering accidental cover of Rs. 2 lakh (death or permanent total disability) and Rs. 1 lakh (permanent partial disability).

Atal Pension Yojana (APY): 6.71 crore enrolments providing monthly pensions to eligible subscribers.

Credit-Linked Schemes

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY): 48.92 crore loans amounting to Rs. 29.93 lakh crore sanctioned to micro/small business units up to Rs. 10 lakh for income-generating activities.

Stand-Up India Scheme (SUPI): 2.36 lakh loans amounting to Rs. 53,609 crore sanctioned to SC/ST and women entrepreneurs for greenfield projects.

PM Vishwakarma Scheme: Launched on September 17, 2023, this scheme supports traditional artists and craftspeople with skill training, collateral-free credit, modern tools, and market linkage.

Prime Minister Street Vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi): Launched on June 1, 2020, this scheme provides loans and economic development support to street vendors affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.

Monitoring and Review

The implementation and effectiveness of these schemes are periodically reviewed with banks and other stakeholders to ensure successful execution.
