VB-G RAM G Bill, 2025 Receives Presidential Approval and Becomes Law
India’s rural employment framework has entered a new phase with the VB-G RAM G Bill, 2025 officially becoming law. The legislation came into force after receiving assent from Droupadi Murmu on December 21, 2025 as confirmed by the Ministry of Rural Development. The new law replaces the long running MGNREGA scheme and promises a revised approach to rural employment and livelihoods, in line with the government’s broader development goals.
MGNREGA has been one of India’s most impactful social welfare laws since its introduction in 2005 providing employment security to millions of rural households. Replacing it is therefore a major policy shift.
