Veteran Singer Suman Kalyanpur Dies at 89, Indian Music Mourns a Legend
On 31st May 2026 Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur passed away in Mumbai. She was known for her melodious voice and timeless song and one of the most most respected playback singers of the 1960s and 1970s. Her contributions to the Indian cinema and regional music earned her the special place in the hearts of millions of fans.
According to family sources and close associates, Suman Kalyanpur passed away peacefully at her residence in Lokhandwala, Mumbai, due to age-related health issues.
She reportedly breathed her last on Sunday evening around 8 PM.
Her close friend and noted Marathi writer Mangala Khadilkar stated that the singer had been listening to her own songs in the days leading up to her passing.
Her final rites are scheduled to be held at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai.
Suman Kalyanpur emerged as one of the leading playback singers of the 1960s and 1970s time in Indian music industry. The ear which is dominated by legendary voices, she successfully made her own identity through unique singing style, emotional depth and impeccable musical expression.
