Veteran Singer Suman Kalyanpur Dies at 89, Indian Music Mourns a Legend
Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur passed away at the age of 89 in Mumbai on 31st may, 2026. She was known for her melodious voice and timeless song and one of the most most respected playback singers of the 1960s and 1970s. Her contributions to the Indian cinema and regional music earned her a special place in the hearts of millions of fans.
According to family sources and close associates, Suman Kalyanpur passed away peacefully at her residence in Lokhandwala, Mumbai, due to age-related health issues.
She reportedly breathed her last on Sunday evening around 8 PM.
Her close friend and noted Marathi writer Mangala Khadilkar stated that the singer had been listening to her own songs in the days leading up to her passing.
Her final rites are scheduled to be held at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai.
