Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan Appointed as New Navy Chief
The government has appointed Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan as the next Chief of the Naval Staff. He will take over on May 31, replacing Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.
Currently heading the Western Naval Command in Mumbai, Vice Admiral Swaminathan brings decades of operational and leadership experience to the top post in the Indian Navy.
Official orders announcing Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan as the next Navy chief were issued on Saturday.
The appointment comes as India continues to strengthen maritime security and modernise naval operations in the Indian Ocean region.
Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987.
He is a specialist in communication and electronic warfare and has served in several important operational and administrative roles during his naval career.

After promotion as Rear Admiral, he served as Chief Staff Officer (Training) at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.
He also played an important role in setting up the Indian Naval Safety Team, which oversees operational safety across naval platforms and establishments.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan studied at several prestigious defence institutions.
His extensive training reflects his strong operational and strategic background.
India is currently focusing on expanding naval capabilities and strengthening maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan’s experience in operational command, personnel management, and naval safety is expected to support these efforts.
His appointment also comes amid increasing emphasis on indigenous defence production and advanced naval preparedness.
