Which District of Gujarat is known as the Butter City?

Gujarat is a state on the western coast of India, known for having the longest coastline in the country, stretching about 1,600 km. It covers an area of 196,024 square kilometers and has a population of around 60 million. The state is bordered by Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and the Arabian Sea. Its capital is Gandhinagar, and the largest city is Ahmedabad. The people of Gujarat speak the Gujarati language.

Gujarat currently has 33 districts. The state was formed in 1960 with 17 districts, which were later split to create more administration divisions. Due to population growth and urbanization, the number of districts has increased over time. These districts are further divided into talukas, or sub-districts.

Butter City in Gujarat

Bardoli, located in the Surat district of Gujarat, is known as the “Butter City.” It is famous for its rich and creamy butter production, with local manufacturers offering both salted and unsalted varieties. Bardoli is also historically significant for the Bardoli Satyagraha, a farmers’ protest against British taxation led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1928.

Historical Significance of Bardoli

Bardoli is also famous for the Bardoli Satyagraha, a major movement in India’s freedom struggle. In 1928, farmers in Bardoli protested against the British government’s unfair tax policies that heavily affected them. Led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the protest used non-violent methods to demand justice. The movement was successful, and the British government was forced to return confiscated land, canceling a tax hike that had been imposed on farmers.
