Madhya Pradesh is a central state in India famous for its rich cultural heritage and historical sites. Madhya Pradesh is the second-largest state in India by area and the fifth-largest by population, with more than 72 million people living there. It shares borders with Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
Madhya Pradesh is divided into 55 districts, which are organized into 10 divisions. As of 2023, the state has 55 district councils (jila panchayats), 376 administrative areas (tehsils), 313 blocks (janpad panchayats), and 23,043 village councils (gram panchayats). Additionally, there are various municipalities, including 18 city corporations (Nagar Nigams), 100 town councils (Nagar Palikas), and 264 town panchayats (Nagar Panchayats) in the state.
Chhindwara is the largest district in Madhya Pradesh, covering an area of 11,815 square kilometers. It is known for its cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, and Devgarh Fort. In contrast, Niwari is the smallest district at 1,318 square kilometers and became a separate district in 2018.
