Some places are famous for the crops and vegetables they grow. These regions become well-known not just in their state, but across the country. The right soil, climate, and farming traditions help farmers produce healthy and high-quality vegetables. Many people visit these areas to see the farms and buy fresh produce directly from the farmers, supporting the local economy and enjoying fresh, natural food.
Carrot is a Rabi crop, meaning it grows in the cooler months. Farmers usually sow carrot seeds between September and November. The harvesting season lasts from December to March. Carrots require cold weather and grow best in temperatures between 16°C and 21°C. Rabi crops generally need a cool climate, which is why carrots thrive in this season.
The district of Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh is famously called the “Carrot City”. Within Bulandshahr, the Sikandrabad area is particularly known for its carrot production. Carrots grown here are recognized across the country for their quality.
Sikandrabad produces a huge quantity of carrots every year. The main reason for this is the fertile loamy soil, which is ideal for carrot farming. From here, carrots are sent to major markets in Delhi, Haryana, and other states. Due to its large-scale production and supply, Bulandshahr has earned the nickname Carrot Capital of India.
Besides Bulandshahr, carrots are also grown in Hapur, Meerut, and Agra districts in western Uttar Pradesh. The region is also known for its delicious carrot halwa, a popular sweet dish made from carrots. During the winter season, the demand for carrots from these districts rises significantly.
