India is a land of many ancient forts, each with its own story and unique name. Some forts were built for defense, some for royal residence, and some for planning great battles. Among them, one fort has a very unusual name that means “Kunwara Fort.” This name has a special reason behind it, which is connected to an interesting event from history and the dreams of a powerful king.
Asirgarh Fort, located in Madhya Pradesh, is called “Kunwara Fort,” which means ‘Virgin’ or ‘Unconquered Fort.’ It got this name because it was never conquered by any enemy in history. Built on a hill in the Satpura range, its strong location made it very hard for anyone to defeat.
The name ”Kunwara Fort” means ”Bachelor Fort” or ”Unconquered Fort.” This name was given because the fort was never conquered by enemies.
Even though many powerful rulers tried to capture it over the years, no one could take full control of it. That is why people started calling it “Kunawar Fort,” showing that it remained unbroken and unbeaten in history.
The fort known as ‘‘Kunwara Fort” is actually Asirgarh Fort. It is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, around 20 kilometers north of Burhanpur, in the Satpura mountain range. The fort is built on a hill, which gave it a strong and safe position.
Asirgarh Fort is very important because of its strategic location. It controls the main route to the southern part of India. For this reason, it was known as the ”Key of the Deccan.” Whoever had control over this fort could also control movement between northern and southern India.
The design of Asirgarh Fort shows a mix of different styles.
Most of the fort has Indian architectural features, but there are also signs of Faroqi and Mughal influence. You can also see touches of Islamic, Persian and Turkish styles. This combination makes the fort both strong and beautiful.
