In 1962, India’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, graced Visakhapatnam with her presence to inaugurate the city’s first children’s park. At the time, she held ministerial positions in parliament, demonstrating the city’s political significance.

In 1970, as Indira Gandhi assumed the role of India’s Prime Minister, she revisited Visakhapatnam to inaugurate the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, further solidifying the city’s industrial prowess. It was during this time that Visakhapatnam earned its moniker as the “City of Destiny,” a title immortalized by the media, elevating its global recognition.
