Which Institution has Developed the World’s Largest Solar Tree?

India is moving fast towards clean and green energy. Solar power is one of the best ways to reduce pollution and save fuel. Scientists in India are also creating new ideas to use solar energy in smart ways. One such amazing invention is the Solar Tree, which looks like a tree but produces electricity. It is a big step towards a cleaner and sustainable future.

Which Institution has Developed the World’s Largest Solar Tree in India?

The world’s largest Solar Tree has been developed by the CSIR-CMERI. It is installed at its residential colony in Durgapur. This institute is known for creating useful technologies for the country.

What is a Solar Tree?

A Solar Tree is a special structure that looks like a tree. Instead of leaves, it has solar panels. These panels absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity. The design saves space and produces more power compared to normal solar systems.

Features of the Solar Tree

This Solar Tree is very powerful and smart. It has an installed capacity of more than 11.5 kWp. It can produce around 12,000 to 14,000 units of electricity every year.

There are 35 solar panels in one tree, and each panel has a capacity of 330 watts. The panels are placed in such a way that they get maximum sunlight. The branches (arms) can also be adjusted to change the angle of the panels. This helps in better energy production.

Smart and Advanced Technology

The Solar Tree is not just about producing electricity. It also uses modern technology. It can be connected with IoT (Internet of Things) features. This means it can provide:

  • CCTV surveillance for farms
  • Weather updates like rainfall and wind speed
  • Soil and humidity data

Farmers can also connect it to digital platform like the National Agricultural Market to get useful information.

Benefits for Farmers

This Solar Tree is very useful for agriculture. It can run machines like water pumps, e-tractors, and power tillers. It also saves space, so farming can continue around it.

It reduces the use of expensive fuels and helps farmers earn more money. The extra electricity can also be sent to the power grid, giving additional income.

Environmental Benefits

The Solar Tree is eco-friendly. Each tree can reduce about 10-12 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This helps in reducing pollution and fighting climate change.

It is a big step towards making India energy-independent and environmentally safe.

Cost and Government Support

The cost of one Solar Tree is around Rs.7.5 lakh. Farmers and businesses can take support from the PM KUSUM Scheme. This scheme promotes the use of solar energy in agriculture.
