Who Is Gyaneshwari Yadav? Indian Weightlifter Wins Silver Medal at Commonwealth Games 2026
Gyaneshwari Yadav has won the silver medal in the 53kg women’s division at Glasgow, where the young lifter from Chhattisgarh impressed everyone. In addition to winning the silver medal, Gyaneshwari broke several records in the Commonwealth Games before she finished second behind Nigeria’s Onome Omolola by successfully defending her title. This makes Gyaneshwari the fourth weightlifter from India and the fifth from India overall to win a medal in these games.

Her snatch of 88kg set a new Commonwealth Games record until Onome Omolola submitted a 93kg attempt from Nigeria.
In the clean and jerk part of the competition, Yadav attempted to beat her own Commonwealth Games record again by lifting 111kg, only for Omolola to do it successfully later.
The bronze medal went to Rebeka Groulx from Canada.
Gyaneshwari Yadav was born in the year 2003 in Bhodiya village in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district. She has established herself as one of the India’s most accomplished young weightlifters and consistently performing in the several national and international competitions.
Besides being a weightlifting champion for India, Gyaneshwari Yadav holds the position of an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in Chhattisgarh Police and combines her dedication to sports with service to public.
Her persistence, discipline, and technique have enabled her to become a leading athlete in the weightlifting sport of lighter categories in India.
