Who will be the Next Chief Minister of Delhi From the BJP Political Party?

The next Chief Minister of Delhi will likely be chosen from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) elected MLAs, not from its MPs. Some names being discussed for the post include Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay and Shikha Roy. The final decision is expected soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi return from his foreign visit.

Meeting to Select the Chief Minister of Delhi

Since Saturday, several meetings have taken place between the Rashtriya Swayamesevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP leaders. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National General Secretary (Organization) B L Santhosh have been involved in these discussions. The new Chief Minister and Cabinet are expected to represent Delhi’s diverse communities, including Punjabi, Baniya, Purvanchali, women, SC, OBC and Brahmins.

Selection Criteria for the New CM

BJP has set some conditions for selecting the next CM:

  • The person must have a clean public image.
  • The age limit is 60 years.
  • Preference is given to leaders who have grown within the BJP-RSS organization in Delhi.

Top Candidates for the CM Post

Several BJP leaders are being considered for the Chief Minsiter post in Delhi. The top candidates include Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta, Shikha Roy and Satish Upadhyay. Each has strong political experience and close ties with the BJP and RSS.

Ashish Sood

Ashish Sood is one of the top contenders. He has a long history in BJP and RSS. He has been a councillor and the Leader of the House in the former South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). He also served as BJP’s in-charge for Goa and co-in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir. Sood is considered close to BJP’s top leaders, including J P Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan. He won the Janakpuri seat in the latest edition by nearly 19,000 votes.

Rekha Gupta

Rekha Gupta has strong connections with RSS and started her political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). She was the president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in the late 1990s. She has served in several key BJP positions, including as the general secretary of BJP’s Mahila Morcha in Delhi.

Shikha Roy

Shikha Roy has been a two-time BJP councillor from Greater Kailash. She is famous for unfurling the Indian flag at Lal Chow in Srinagar during a curfew in 2011. She has also held leadership positions in BJP’s Delhi unit and was chairperson of the SDMC Standing Committee.

Satish Upadhyay

Satish Upadhyay is a former Delhi BJP president and vice-chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council. He has held several key positions in Delhi BJP and SDMC.

Final Decision Soon

A BJP leader confirmed that the new CM will be a serving MLA. However, the party has not ruled out including new members like Arvinder Singh Lovely in the Cabinet. BJP national president J P Nadda has said that the CM selection will not take long and will be decided quickly once the leadership meets. The final announcement is expected after PM Modi returns from his trip.
