Willie Walsh Takes Charge as IndiGo's New CEO, Succeeds Pieter Elbers
Willie Walsh assumes the charge as the new CEO of IndiGo. Walsh started his work on August 3, marking a new era of leadership for IndiGo after Pieter Elbers was left out of the leadership. With the years of experience in leading some of the world’s leading airlines and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Walsh is to pilot IndiGo in its next phase of international growth and excellence in operations and customer service.
Willie Walsh has become the CEO of IndiGo Air. IndiGo Air reported this news to the press after the announcement of his appointment made on March 31, 2026.
He was appointed only 20 days after the sudden resignation of Pieter Elbers, making his tenure end after some significant disruptions faced by the airline in December 2025.
As the CEO, Walsh will be responsible for the management of the airline and its long-term strategic planning and he will pursue plans for globalization.

IndiGo’s Managing Director Rahul Bhatia expressed the confidence in the recent appointment, noting that Walsh’s international experience and leadership will be instrumental in achieving the company’s global objectives.
Bhatia added that Walsh’s understanding of aviation markets worldwide and operational efficiency will help IndiGo grow and become a competitive airline in the international arena.
