The Government of India is placing special emphasis on creating capacity for the country’s rapidly growing aviation market, according to the Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia. In an address during the curtain raiser event for Wing India 2024 in New Delhi, Minister Scindia highlighted the government’s efforts to simplify processes and procedures while eliminating bottlenecks in the aviation industry. With the goal of surpassing 200 airports, heliports, and waterdromes within the next three to four years, India aims to bolster its domestic and international connectivity.

Minister Scindia emphasized the government’s commitment to the aviation sector’s growth, citing the remarkable recovery following the V-shaped trajectory witnessed post-Covid. He stated that in 2014, the domestic passenger count stood at 60 million, which surged to 144 million in 2019. This remarkable growth underscores the importance of fostering a conducive environment for the aviation industry.
Civil Aviation Secretary, Rajiv Bansal, highlighted the ongoing expansion plans of major airports across the country. With several airports already implementing expansion projects, India’s aviation infrastructure is being geared up to meet the escalating demand. Despite being connected to fewer than 100 destinations globally, India possesses immense potential to enhance its international connectivity.
Secretary Bansal further emphasized the growth witnessed in the small aircraft segment and the inauguration of new airports under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. This initiative aims to include more tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India’s domestic aviation map, enabling increased accessibility and connectivity for a larger population.
Scheduled to take place from January 18th to 21st, 2024, Wing India 2024 will be held at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. As Asia’s largest event focused on civil aviation, it will serve as a platform for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and aviation enthusiasts to explore the latest developments, technological advancements, and business opportunities in the aviation sector.
