World Heritage Day 2023: Theme

World Heritage Day: History

The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) proposed the notion of observing World Heritage Day in 1982, and it was subsequently endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1983. The date of April 18th was selected to commemorate the adoption of the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage by UNESCO in 1982.
