History of World Soil Day
- First proposed in 2002 by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS)
- Supported by Thailand and promoted by the Global Soil Partnership under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
- Officially recognized by the UN General Assembly in 2013, with the first celebration held on 5 December 2014
