The idea of World Theatre Day was proposed by the ITI founder, Arvi Kivimaa, during the organization’s ninth world congress in Helsinki, Finland. The proposal was unanimously accepted, and the first World Theatre Day was celebrated on March 27, 1962. Since then, World Theatre Day has been celebrated every year on March 27 to promote theatre arts and to bring attention to its importance in our lives. The day is celebrated by organizing theatre events, performances, and workshops worldwide.
