World Trade Centre to Anchor Ambitious AI City Near Hyderabad

The government of Telangana has taken a significant step towards establishing itself as a global AI hub by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Trade Centres’ Association for the creation of a World Trade Centre (WTC) within the proposed AI City near Hyderabad. This strategic move underscores Telangana’s commitment to fostering innovation, attracting global investments, and positioning itself at the forefront of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

World-Class Facilities to Drive AI Innovation

The planned WTC at AI City is set to become a cornerstone of Telangana’s technological ambitions. Key features of the development include:

  • 1 million square feet of built-up space dedicated to AI and emerging tech firms
  • World-class office spaces designed to attract leading global companies
  • Comprehensive trade services to facilitate international business
  • State-of-the-art training facilities for skill development
  • Retail and entertainment zones to create a vibrant community
  • Co-living spaces promoting work-life integration
  • A luxury hotel to accommodate international visitors
  • Primary healthcare facilities ensuring resident well-being

This integrated approach aims to create a mini smart city that embodies the walk-to-work concept, fostering a highly productive and sustainable work environment.

Global AI Summit: Showcasing Telangana’s AI Prowess

The signing of the MoU coincided with Telangana’s two-day Global AI Summit, which concluded on Friday. The event served as a platform to showcase the state’s commitment to AI innovation and attracted:

  • Over 2,500 delegates from around the world
  • More than 20 renowned speakers sharing insights on AI trends and applications
  • Major announcements, including details of the AI City project

The summit’s success is expected to catalyze further investments in Telangana’s AI ecosystem, building on the momentum created by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s inauguration address.

Multi-Pronged Strategy for AI-Driven Growth

Minister Sridhar Babu outlined three key strategies that will drive Telangana towards its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy:

  1. Centres of Excellence (CoEs): Establishing vertical-specific CoEs focusing on critical sectors such as cybersecurity, semiconductors, and finance to drive innovation and growth.
  2. AI for Grassroots: Setting up AI innovation centres in tier-2 and tier-3 cities to bridge the urban-rural divide and democratize access to AI technologies.
  3. Building Trust in AI: Implementing comprehensive frameworks for AI governance to ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical AI development.

Fostering Innovation Through Competitions

The summit also featured initiatives to encourage grassroots innovation in AI and machine learning. The Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Technology Hub (MATH), a collaborative effort between the Centre’s Department of Science and Technology and T-Hub, announced winners of its hackathon and startup pitch competitions:

  • Flatmates: First prize, awarded ₹5 lakh
  • Salubrity Health: Second prize, awarded ₹3 lakh
  • SoulSupport: Third prize, awarded ₹2 lakh

These competitions demonstrate Telangana’s commitment to nurturing local talent and fostering a culture of innovation in AI and related technologies.
