The much-anticipated auction for the second edition of the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to commence on Saturday, December 9, in Mumbai. The forthcoming WPL 2024 tournament is expected to kick off in February or March next year, bringing together a total of 165 players from five franchises. The participating teams include Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, with 104 Indian players and 61 overseas players set to go under the hammer during the auction.

WPL 2023 Recap: Mumbai Indians Clinch Victory

The first edition of WPL in 2023 witnessed the Mumbai Indians emerging victorious after defeating Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets in the final match. Notably, Smriti Mandhana was the most expensive player in the inaugural season, securing a deal with Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.40 crore ($4.07 million).

WPL 2024: Five Competing Teams

The Women’s Premier League 2024 will see competition among five teams: Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz.

Out of the 165 players up for auction, 104 are Indian players, and 61 are overseas players, including 15 players from associate nations. The auction will feature a mix of 56 capped players and 109 uncapped players. The five teams have a maximum of 30 slots to fill, with 9 spots reserved for overseas players.
