‘Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ organised by NMCG

The Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organised the event “Yamuna Par Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” at the water sports club in New Delhi. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, presided over the gathering of Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Shekhawat was given a guard of honour by BSF members on the occasion. To commemorate the occasion of Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, he also raised the national flag, Tiranga.

Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Key Points

  • Kumar provided information about the Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav project, estimating that over 25 thousand crores have been approved.
  • He added that 96 of these projects have been finished and that the others are in various stages of completion.
  • Nearly 5000 million litres of untreated sewage are being discharged into the Ganga and its tributaries every day.
  • Awe-inspiring musical performances by schoolchildren marked the culmination of the “Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” event.
  • On this Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav occasion, the new River Champ course was introduced on the Continuous Learning and Activity Portal, and the winners of the Ganga Quest 2022 were congratulated.

About Arth-Ganga initiative

  • In the meantime, the Arth-Ganga concept was used to launch a variety of new initiatives by NMCG Director-General G Asok Kumar.
  • These featured the Minister for Jal Shakti’s virtual inauguration of the Jalaj programme at 26 places.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NMCG and the Sahakar Bharati was also signed during the event in order to realise the vision of sustainable and viable economic development through public participation, the establishment and strengthening of local cooperatives, and directing their cooperation towards achieving the mission of Arth-Ganga and Yamuna Par Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav
  • ImAvatar, a tourism-related platform, was also established to promote livelihood options along the Ganga basin. Through tourism, the “Arth-Ganga” initiative can be promoted.
