YUVAi-Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI,” a collaborative initiative of the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and Intel India, is poised to take center stage at the upcoming Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit. This groundbreaking program, designed to impart essential AI skills to the youth, is gaining recognition for its innovative approach and commitment to building a future-ready workforce.
YUVAi is a transformative initiative aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of AI among school students from class 8 to 12 nationwide. The program’s primary goal is to equip these students with essential AI skills, empowering them to become human-centric designers and users of artificial intelligence. YUVAi stands as a beacon, guiding the next generation towards responsible and impactful AI usage to address societal challenges.
YUVAi operates in three distinct phases, implemented across multiple cohorts to ensure maximum student participation. The program introduces students to various social themes, guiding their AI knowledge towards solving real-world problems.
In the first cohort, YUVAi witnessed overwhelming participation, with more than 8,500 students registering. Online orientation sessions were conducted, where students and teachers alike delved into fundamental AI concepts. Subsequently, students submitted innovative AI-based ideas under the eight core themes of the program. These are:
1.Agriculture (Krishi)
2.Healthcare (Aarogya)
3.Education (Shiksha)
4.Environment & Clean Energy (Paryavaran)
5.Transportation (Parivahan)
6.Rural Development (Grameen Vikas)
7.Smart Cities
8.Law & Justice (Vidhi aur Nyaay)
Phase 1 resulted in over 750 student submissions. In Phase 2, the top 200 AI-based ideas were shortlisted. The selected students then underwent online deep dive AI training and mentorship sessions with certified Intel AI coaches and experts, enhancing their solutions. These students later submitted their refined AI projects for Phase 3 evaluation.
In Phase 3, the top 50 students participated in a four-day face-to-face rapid modeling workshop. This immersive experience included one-on-one mentorship, apprenticeship, and guidance from industry experts to fine-tune their projects into prototypes. An on-the-spot project presentation was conducted by a diverse jury panel, shortlisting the top 10 students.
YUVAi is set to make a significant impact at the GPAI Summit, with its top 10 finalists showcasing their AI-based social impact projects. As the global event unfolds, YUVAi aims to inspire policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to collaborate in shaping a future where AI is not merely a tool but a force for positive change. YUVAi’s representation at the GPAI Summit signifies a milestone in the journey towards creating a generation of responsible and innovative AI leaders.
