503-Member Indian Contingent Receives Grand Send-Off for Asian Games 2026

India’s contingent of 503 members headed for the Asian Games 2026 had been accorded a befitting send-off in New Delhi today. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya was full of confidence that Indian athletes would put up a good show and boost the pride of the nation. The official contingent jersey was also revealed during the ceremony in the presence of athletes and support personnel. One major feature of the contingent is its representation of more than 300 first-timers in the Asian Games which shows the emergence of new talent in the country.

Revealing Official Jersey before Asian Games

Mansukh Mandaviya has revealed the official contingent jersey along with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha, Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao and Chef de Mission Sahdev Yadav.

Mandaviya stated that he was very sure that Indian contingent would do well at the Games. He added that accomplishments in sports were not just personal but the athletes also represented India and their achievements added to the pride of the nation.

Contingent comprises of athletes and support staff going to Japan for the continental sports event.

More Than 300 Athletes Will Make Their Asian Games Debut

One of the main characteristics of India’s team is the involvement of more than 300 athletes who will make their debut at the Asian Games.

The minister stressed the fact that it is one of the indications of the growing amount of young athletes in India. Moreover, the fact that there is a large amount of debutants shows the increasing level of competitiveness in Indian sports.

According to Mandaviya, the improvement of India’s results at international competitions proves the progress that India’s sports have made.

Improvement of India’s Results at the Commonwealth Games

Additionally, the minister mentioned the performance of India at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He stated that India won 13 gold medals at the last Commonwealth Games and that the current result was better than the previous one by more than 35%.

The measures taken to make the selection of athletes open and based on merit were also mentioned by Mandaviya. Such measures include open trials, observers, and camera surveillance.

India’s 2036 Olympic Vision

The government has tied up India’s current sporting progress with its future vision regarding the 2036 Olympics.

As stated by Mandaviya, the aim of India is to become an established name among the most sporty nations on Earth by the time when it organizes the Olympics. It was referred to as a decade-long project backed up by over ₹36,000 crore sports infrastructure development funding.

The plan aims at improving facilities and providing better opportunities for Indian athletes to compete internationally.

Athletes’ Responsibilities Stressed Out By P.T. Ushaa

IOA President P.T. Usha has stated that being a part of India’s team at the Asian Games is not just a privilege but also a responsibility.

The lady stressed out that the career of an athlete cannot be assessed only based on his/her medals, but also taking into account his/her dreams and aspirations to represent the nation.

She has also expressed her gratitude towards the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
