Admiral Lisa Franchetti becomes first woman to lead US Navy

The nomination of Admiral Lisa Franchetti served as significant milestone in the history of U.S. Navy, becomes first woman to serve as the Chief of Naval Operations and member of Joint Chiefs of Staffs.

US President Joe Biden has nominated Admiral Lisa Franchetti to lead the US Navy. If confirmed by the Senate, Franchetti would become the first female member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which consists of chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force and others.

Admiral Lisa Franchetti:

Lisa Marie Franchetti is a United States Navy admiral who serves as the 42nd Vice Chief of Naval Operations since September 2022 and currently nominated as the first woman to lead US Navy.

Franchetti previously served as director for strategy, plans and policies of the Joint Staff from 2020 to 2022, the second deputy chief of naval operations for war-fighting development in 2020 and commander of the United States Sixth Fleet from 2018 to 2020. She was the second woman promoted to four-star admiral in the United States Navy.

Education & Career:

Franchetti studied at the North-western University’s Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Illinois. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and earning developmental honors in history. She joined the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Programme and was commissioned in 1985. She furthered her education at the Naval War College and obtained a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix.
