Ahilyabai Holkar Jayanti is celebrated every year on 31st May to honour the birth of one of India’s greatest women rulers. In 2025, this day is very special as it marks her 300th birth anniversary. Ahilyabai Holkar was born 31 May 1725 in the village of Chondi, in present-day Maharashtra. She belonged to a Marathi Hindu family. She became the queen of Indore in the 18th century after the death of her father-in-law, Malhar Rao Holkar.
Despite facing many personal losses, including her husband Khanderao Holkar, her father-in-law and her son Male Rao Holkar, she bravely took over the rule and became a wise and fair rule. Her brother-in-law Tukoji Rao Holkar helped her as a military commander.
