Who was Ahilyabai Holkar?
Ahilyabai Holkar was born 31 May 1725 in the village of Chondi, in present-day Maharashtra. She belonged to a Marathi Hindu family. She became the queen of Indore in the 18th century after the death of her father-in-law, Malhar Rao Holkar.
Despite facing many personal losses, including her husband Khanderao Holkar, her father-in-law and her son Male Rao Holkar, she bravely took over the rule and became a wise and fair rule. Her brother-in-law Tukoji Rao Holkar helped her as a military commander.
