Geoffrey Hinton, the man who won the ‘Nobel Prize of computing’ for his work on neural networks and is known as the godfather of AI, is now speaking against the dangers of artificial intelligence. Hinton, alongside two other so-called godfathers of AI bagged the Turing Award in 2018 for their trailblazing work in artificial intelligence, recently quit his job at Google.

Geoffrey Hinton, a computer scientist who played a significant role in developing the technology that powers popular chatbots such as ChatGPT and Bing, resigned from Google to speak up about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence. Hinton, who is 75 years old, had created the foundational technology for AI in collaboration with two of his graduate students at the University of Toronto back in 2012. He believes that AI is the next big thing for the tech industry, but also wants to highlight the risks associated with it.
After submitting his resignation last month, Hinton had a conversation with Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The tech industry is optimistic about the potential impact of artificial intelligence, considering it to be a breakthrough that could transform various fields, such as drug research and education, in the same way the web browser did in the early 1990s. However, critics, such as Elon Musk, are concerned that generative AI may be used for misinformation and may pose a significant threat to jobs and even humanity.
