Amit Shah Presents President’s Colours to Puducherry Police

Home Minister of Union Government and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah presented the honor of President’s Colours to the Puducherry Police on August 9th, 2026, due to their courage, dedication, and service. This ceremony was attended by the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry K. Kailashnathan and Honorable Chief Minister N. Rangasamy along with the other notable personalities. The President’s Colours are one of the most prestigious honors for a disciplined force, and Amit Shah expressed his gratitude to the Puducherry government, police force, and citizens of the UT. Furthermore, this award acknowledges the role of the police in maintaining law and order in geographically dispersed regions of Puducherry.

President’s Colours is an honor that is bestowed on a disciplined force in appreciation of its distinguished service, courage, and dedication.

For a police force, getting the honor is a reflection of the institution’s contribution to the maintenance of law and order and citizens’ services.

Puducherry Police now stands amongst the police forces in India who have been honored with this prestigious title.

Why was Puducherry Police Honoured?

According to Amit Shah, the President’s Colours award is a recognition of the valour, diligence, and dedication of the Puducherry Police.

Although not very large in numbers, it is entrusted with providing security for all of Puducherry, which is made up of four geographically separate areas.

As per the statement, the Home Minister praised the performance of the force during the COVID-19 pandemic when the police had to stay at the forefront even during such a health crisis.

It is stated that their valour and performance during such a difficult time will always remain a part of its history.

Puducherry Police History

Puducherry is different from other places in terms of its geographical and historical background as it has been under French rule for a long time before becoming an integral part of India.

According to Amit Shah, even after such history, Puducherry has maintained its identity as Indians and spiritually.

The post of Director General of Police for Puducherry was established on October 1, 1963. Since then, they have always worked towards enhancing the internal security in the Union Territory.
