Asian Shooting Championship 2024, Jakarta: Yogesh Bags Dual Gold, Lakshay Takes Bronze
The Asia Olympic Qualifiers witnessed a remarkable display of skill and precision from Indian shooters, with Yogesh Singh emerging as the star of the event. Singh not only secured the individual gold medal in the men’s 25m centre fire pistol competition but also led the Indian trio to clinch the team gold. Additionally, other Indian shooters showcased their talent in different categories, contributing to the nation’s successful campaign.
Yogesh Singh showcased exceptional marksmanship in the men’s 25m centre fire pistol competition, claiming the individual gold medal with a score of 573. He outperformed Muad Al Balushi of Oman, who secured the silver with a score of 570, and Indonesia’s Anang Yulianto, who took home the bronze with a score of 567. The Indian contingent dominated the event, with Pankaj Yadav and Akshay Jain finishing fourth and sixth, respectively.
The collective effort of Yogesh Singh, Pankaj Yadav, and Akshay Jain resulted in India bagging the team gold in the men’s 25m centre fire pistol competition. The trio showcased excellent coordination and skill, amassing a total score of 1704. This achievement placed them ahead of the teams from Oman and Indonesia, reinforcing India’s dominance in the shooting arena.
In the shotgun qualifiers held in Kuwait City, Lakshay demonstrated his prowess by securing the bronze medal. He shot a commendable 33 in the six-man final, finishing fourth in the qualification round with a score of 119. The gold in the shotgun event went to Iran’s Mohammad Beyranvand after a shoot-off with China’s Yuhao Guo.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Shreyasi Singh participated in the women’s trap event, securing a fifth-place finish in the final with a total of 19 points. Shreyasi had earlier qualified for the final in the fourth position with a cumulative score of 115 across five rounds. Despite missing out on an individual medal, Shreyasi contributed to the team’s success.
Shreyasi Singh, along with teammates Manisha Keer and Bhavya Tripathi, showcased a strong team performance, securing the silver medal in the women’s trap team event. The Indian trio accumulated a total of 328 points, finishing behind China and ahead of Kazakhstan in a closely contested competition.
