Maruti Suzuki installed Asia’s largest 20 MWp solar plant at Manesar

Maruti Suzuki India has installed a 20 MW solar carport at its Manesar, Haryana, site. The project is projected to provide the organisation with 28,000 MWh of electricity per year. According to the firm, the energy generated by this initiative will be similar to the energy required to create nearly 67,000 cars every year. This is Asia’s largest solar carport, according to the business.

KEY POINTS:

  • Using the East-West orientation approach, the solar carport is constructed with the smallest area per unit of electricity generation.
  • The East-West approach allows developers to add more rows and panels, increasing generation capacity while using less space.
  • Approximately 9,000 finished vehicles can be parked at the site.
  • Companies are focused on making the most of available space in order to save money on energy and meet sustainability goals.
  • Solar carports are an excellent way to turn an otherwise unused space into a source of renewable energy.
  • Carports have the added benefit of providing covered parking spots in addition to generating solar energy.
  • They are more visible than traditional rooftop solar panels and assist businesses in incorporating climate mitigation.

Maruti Suzuki Projects:

  • Maruti Suzuki launched a 5 MW solar carport at its Gurugram site in 2020.
  • The project was designed to meet the facility’s internal energy needs and was timed to coincide with a captive power project.
  • The company’s total solar power capacity throughout its plants presently stands at 26.3 MW, including the 1.3 MW solar plant installed in 2014.

The commercial and industrial sectors have witnessed a significant increase in demand for solar to meet their energy needs at lower costs while also achieving their sustainability goals. Through an offshore corporate power purchase agreement, Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a Suzuki subsidiary, began purchasing power from a 17.6 MW hybrid wind and solar power project erected by ReNew Power in June 2022.

Suzuki Motor Corporation, the parent firm of Maruti Suzuki India, inked a memorandum of understanding with Gujarat in March this year, agreeing to invest around 150 billion yen ($1.13 billion) in local manufacturing of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and BEV batteries.
