Athletics Integrity Unit Puts India in Category A: Rising Doping Cases Raise Alarm
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) have upgraded the India to the Category A. This category means that India is very high risk nation for the doping violations. This decision comes after the India consistently have ranked among the top countries in the Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) between the year 2022 and 2025.
As per the data released by AIU paints which is a worrying picture.
These numbers have showcased the steady increase in the doping cases and make the India as one of the most affected countries globally.
Even the domestically Indian athletes have frequently topped the lists which are published by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
To being placed in the Category A is not just symbolic but it comes with the strict compliance requirements.

This classification have ensures that athletes representing India in the major events like the Olympics and World Championships will undergo the rigorous testing protocols.
AIU Chair David Howman stated that the India’s anti-doping framework has not kept the pace with the scale of the problem.
He highlighted that,

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has accepted the AIU’s decision and it has promised corrective action.
AFI will strengthen the anti-doping education programs and it also enhancing testing mechanisms. It also supporting the intelligence-based investigations and will propose the strict penalties for coaches and support staff
AFI spokesperson Mr. Adille Sumariwalla has advocated for the criminalization of doping and specially to targeting suppliers and facilitators of banned substances.
