BIMSTEC expert group meeting Begin in New Delhi on cooperation in cyber security

A two-day meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Cyber Security Cooperation is being organised in New Delhi by the National Security Council Secretariat of the Indian Government. The BIMSTEC Expert Group will create an Action plan to address cyber security concerns in the BIMSTEC Region, as agreed upon during the conference of the BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs held in Bangkok in March 2019.

• Lt. Gen. Rajesh Pant, the national coordinator for cyber security, will serve as the meeting’s chair. Delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand will also be present.
• Each delegate is a cyber security specialist from a different government agency.
• This summit on cyber security cooperation was organised by India, the lead country for the security sector in the BIMSTEC forum, who also came up with a plan of action for cyber security.
• Senior representatives from each government agency responsible for cyber security and incident response are used to represent the BIMSTEC Countries.
• This meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group is primarily focused on developing an action plan that will improve coordination and cooperation between the BIMSTEC Member States in order to boost cyber security when using ICTs.

This action plan will address cybercrime, critical infrastructure protection, cyber incident response, international developments linked to cyber norms, and systems for the interchange of information related to the internet. The Experts Group on Cyber Security will examine the Action Plan after it has been suggested to be implemented within the next five years.
