‘Ops Alert’ exercise along India-Pakistan border

The Border Security Force (BSF) announced that in preparation for Republic Day festivities, its troops had begun “Ops Alert” with the goal of enhancing security along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in the Kutch region of Gujarat and Barmer in Rajasthan.

‘Ops Alert’ exercise along India-Pakistan border: Key Points

  • The operation, which got under way on Saturday, was described as being conducted to “thwart any ill-designs of anti-national elements” during the Republic Day celebrations.
  • “All along the Indo-Pak international boundary from Sir Creek (marshy area) to the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat and Barmer district of Rajasthan,” is where the “Ops Alert” exercise would be conducted from January 21 through January 28.
  • The BSF will conduct special operations in creeks as part of the drill, the “Harami Nalla”, forward and depth zones, and other locations.
  • Additionally, as part of the exercise, public outreach programmes have been planned.

  • The Indo-Pak border near Kutch in Gujarat is controversial since several Pakistani people have been detained in the past after travelling on boats into Indian seas to hunt fish.
  • The BSF captured 22 Pakistani fishermen and seized 79 fishing boats in this Gujarati region in 2022. 250 crore rupees worth of heroin, and 2.49 crore rupees worth of charas.

In response to the “continuous infiltration of Pakistani fishermen and fishing boats in the area,” the Union Home Ministry has approved a Rs 50 crore money for the construction of eight multi-story bunkers/observation posts in this area along the Bhuj sector.
