BSNL and NRL Join Hands to Drive Industry 4.0 Adoption in India
In a landmark move to transform India’s industrial landscape, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies. The agreement, finalized during the Industry 4.0 Workshop for CPSEs organized under the Ministry of Finance in Guwahati, is set to revolutionize the way industries function by introducing cutting-edge solutions such as 5G CNPN (Captive Non-Public Network), Digital Twins, IoT, Big Data Analytics, and AR/VR-based applications.
The workshop brought together senior dignitaries, including the Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), CMD NRL, Director (Enterprise Business) BSNL, and senior officials from various Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). Discussions centered on equipping CPSEs with Industry 4.0 innovations that align with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, while also fostering technological independence and economic growth in the North Eastern Region.
Under the MoU, BSNL and NRL will collaborate to roll out India’s first 5G CNPN within the refinery sector, paving the way for secure, real-time, and ultra-reliable connectivity. This move will allow industries to integrate next-generation technologies into their operations, making processes more efficient and resilient while reducing dependency on external systems.
According to CMD NRL, the introduction of 5G CNPN will not only boost operational efficiency and cybersecurity but also open the door for transformative solutions such as AR/VR-based training, Digital Twins for simulations, and real-time IoT applications. These advancements are expected to redefine how India’s refinery sector operates, marking it as a game-changing milestone.
The partnership represents BSNL’s dedication to providing next-generation digital infrastructure for India’s strategic industries. The deployment as a technological leap forward, enabling the country to embrace a digitally intelligent and self-reliant Bharat. The initiative also reflects BSNL’s role as a trusted public telecom provider in advancing India’s Digital India mission.
The collaboration is not limited to the refinery sector. As pointed out by the Director (Enterprise Business), BSNL, the project is a historic milestone in the integration of 5G and Industry 4.0 within India’s industrial ecosystem. The success of this model is expected to encourage similar adoptions across other core industrial sectors, reinforcing India’s position as a leader in digital transformation.
