Justice Surya Kant to Become 53rd Chief Justice of India
- Justice Surya Kant has been recommended by CJI Bhushan R Gavai as his successor and is set to become the 53rd Chief Justice of India after Gavai’s retirement on 23 November 2025.
- Justice Kant, the senior-most Supreme Court judge, will serve until 9 February 2027, marking a tenure of about 14 months.
- Elevated to the Supreme Court in May 2019, he will be the first person from Haryana to hold the top judicial post.
- CJI Gavai expressed confidence in Justice Kant’s ability to lead the judiciary with fairness, foresight, and empathy.
Govt. Extends LC75 and BLC Investment Options to Central Govt. Employees
- The Government has extended LC75 and BLC investment options to Central Government employees under the National Pension System (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), responding to demand for more flexible retirement planning.
- These options provide greater flexibility, a glide path mechanism, broadened auto-choice options, and support for informed corpus management, allowing employees to tailor their retirement investments according to individual preferences.

East Timor Becomes 11th Member of ASEAN
- East Timor, Asia’s youngest nation, officially became ASEAN’s 11th member, fulfilling a decades-old vision of President Jose Ramos-Horta.
- With a population of 1.4 million and a $2 billion economy, East Timor joins the bloc after a 14-year wait, aiming for trade, investment, and regional integration.
- Its accession, formalized at the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, marks a historic moment for the young democracy, which gained full independence in 2002 after Portuguese rule and Indonesian occupation.
- Leaders highlight this as a symbolic victory and a new beginning with immense opportunities for cooperation.
China’s CR450: World’s Fastest Bullet Train Unveiled
- China’s CR450 has become the world’s fastest high-speed train, reaching 453 km/h during pre-service testing on the Shanghai–Chengdu corridor. The train accelerates to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes 40 seconds, surpassing its predecessor CR400 Fuxing by 100 seconds.
- Key innovations include a 15-metre aerodynamic nose cone, lightweight materials, energy-efficient motors, and advanced braking for safety, stability, and comfort.
- Scheduled to enter commercial service in 2026 at 400 km/h, the CR450 reinforces China’s leadership in global high-speed rail technology and sets new benchmarks for speed, efficiency, and sustainable inter-city travel.
India to Host First APAC-AIG Meeting in 2025
- India will host the Asia Pacific Accident Investigation Group (APAC-AIG) meeting and workshop for the first time from October 28–31, 2025, organized by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
- Around 90 international investigators and ICAO representatives will attend the event inaugurated by Union Minister Rammohan Naidu.
- The sessions will focus on aircraft accident investigation processes, reporting, and regional cooperation to enhance safety capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region.

Aurangabad Railway Station Renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
- Aurangabad Railway Station Renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Station: Nearly three years after Aurangabad city in Maharashtra was renamed, the Central Railway officially changed Aurangabad railway station to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station with the new station code CPSN.
- Falling under the Nanded Division of South Central Railway, the renaming honors Chhatrapati Sambhaji, son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, replacing the previous association with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
- The station, opened in 1900 during Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan’s reign, serves a city famous for tourist attractions like the Ajanta and Ellora Caves.
Uttarakhand to Levy Green Tax on Out-of-State Vehicles
- Starting December 2025, Uttarakhand will implement a green tax on all vehicles from outside the state to protect the Himalayan ecosystem and reduce pollution in destinations like Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainital, and Rishikesh.
- The tax, ranging from ₹80 to ₹700 depending on vehicle type, will be collected through ANPR cameras and automatic digital deduction, ensuring real-time collection and minimizing evasion.
- The initiative aligns with the Clean Uttarakhand Mission, discourages unnecessary vehicular entry, and funds environmental protection.
- This automated green tax model could serve as a template for other eco-sensitive regions in India.

- INS Sutlej successfully completed a joint hydrographic survey with the Mauritius Hydrographic Service, mapping 35,000 sq. nautical miles under an India-Mauritius MoU.
