Dr. Mayank Sharma Assumes Office as Financial Advisor (Defence Services)

The Ministry of Defence announced on August 1, 2025, that Dr. Mayank Sharma has officially assumed charge as the Financial Advisor (Defence Services). A seasoned officer of the 1989 batch of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), Dr. Sharma brings with him more than three decades of rich administrative and financial experience across various key government departments.

A Distinguished Career in Public Service

Dr. Mayank Sharma has held numerous crucial positions throughout his illustrious career,

• He previously served as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), where he played a pivotal role in overseeing financial management in defence services.
• He worked as Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, contributing to vital national policymaking.
• Representing India at the global stage, he served as the Alternate Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

International Representation

Dr. Sharma’s expertise is not confined to domestic service. He has represented India in prestigious international institutions, including,

• The International Anti-Corruption Academy,
• The Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, where he strengthened India’s global diplomatic and legal engagement.
• His international contributions underline India’s commitment to global governance, anti-corruption efforts, and rule of law.

• Beyond his defence assignments, Dr. Sharma has also contributed significantly in other major roles:
• As Additional Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), he handled crucial administrative responsibilities.
• At AIIMS Delhi, he served as Deputy Director (Administration) & Senior Financial Advisor, ensuring effective management of one of India’s premier healthcare institutions.
