DRDO & Indian Navy Successfully Test-Fire VLSRSAM Missile
The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted the flight-test of the Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) on March 26, 2025. The test was carried out from a land-based vertical launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha. The missile successfully engaged and destroyed a high-speed aerial target at very close range and low altitude, proving its Near-Boundary-Low Altitude capability.
The test also validated the performance of the following indigenous systems:
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Navy, and the industry on this major achievement. He stated that the missile system is a proof of India’s strong research and development capabilities in defence and will be a key asset for the Indian Navy.
Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, praised the team’s efforts and noted that the modern technologies incorporated in the missile will provide a technological edge to the Indian Armed Forces.
