The FIH Hockey Star Awards 2024 ceremony, which took place on November 8, 2024, in Muscat, Oman, celebrated the top performers in international hockey. Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh was named the Men’s Player of the Year, while legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was awarded the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year. The awards are determined by a voting process that includes national team captains, coaches, experts, and fans, as well as media representation.
Harmanpreet Singh, regarded as one of the top drag-flickers in modern hockey, was pivotal to India’s success at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where India clinched the bronze medal. He finished the tournament as the top scorer with 10 goals, a remarkable achievement. Additionally, Harmanpreet led the Indian team to a gold medal at the Asian Champions Trophy in September 2024, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
Harmanpreet received 63.84% of the votes, including 15.27% from national associations, 40% from the expert panel, and 13.57% from fans. This is his third consecutive FIH Player of the Year award, having previously won the accolade in 2021 and 2022.
PR Sreejesh, widely known as the “Great Wall of India,” won the Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third time, having previously won in 2021 and 2022. He was instrumental in India’s dramatic quarter-final victory over Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he played a crucial role after India was reduced to 10 men. In recognition of his contributions to Indian hockey, he received 62.22% of the votes.
Sreejesh, who announced his retirement after the Paris 2024 Olympics, expressed his gratitude, calling the award “a dream year” and one of the most special accolades in his career.
