First Airbus C295 for India successfully completes its maiden flight: Key Points

  • Airbus Defence & Space Head of Military Air Systems, Jean-Brice Dumont, expressed his satisfaction, recognizing the achievement as a fundamental stride for the initial Make in India aerospace plan.
  • With the Indian Air Force poised to become the largest user of the C295 globally, Dumont believes this program exemplifies their dedication to enhancing the IAF’s operational capability.
  • In September 2021, India obtained 56 C295 aircraft to succeed the legacy AVRO fleet.
  • The initial 16 planes will be constructed in Seville, Spain, and transported in a ‘fly-away’ state, while the extra 40 planes will be put together and assembled by Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. (TASL) in India as part of a collaborative industrial scheme.

The construction of the C295 Final Assembly Line in Gujarat marks the first concrete and more extensive private sector Make-in-India defense program, contributing significantly to the indigenous abilities of Indian businesses towards an autonomous India. The global C295 initiative now incorporates a total of 280 orders from 39 operators, making it an unrivaled plane in its weight and mission classification.
