Sushma Swaraj served as the Chief Minister of Delhi for a brief tenure from October 13, 1998, to December 3, 1998. Her time in office lasted just 51 days, during which she focused on improving education and women’s issues. Despite the short duration, her leadership marked a significant moment in Delhi’s political history as the first woman to hold the position.

Delhi’s Second Woman Chief Minister

Following Sushma Swaraj, the second woman to hold the position was Sheila Dikshit from the Indian National Congress. She first assumed office in 1998 and went on to serve a remarkable 15 years, securing a second term in 2003 and again in 2008, when Congress won 43 seats. Her long tenure contributed to shaping modern Delhi.
