The Durand Cup 2024 football tournament will start from July 27 with the final scheduled at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata on August 31. First played in 1888, the Durand Cup is India’s oldest football tournament and serves as the opener for the Indian domestic season. The upcoming edition will be the 133rd edition of the legacy competition.
Kokrajhar, Shillong and Jamshedpur will host one group each while matches of the remaining three groups will be played in Kolkata. Reigning champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant are the most successful team in the competition with 17 titles closely followed by arch-rivals East Bengal, who have 16 trophies. Mohun Bagan beat East Bengal in the final, a Kolkata derby, to clinch the title last season. The 2016 champions Army Green were the last Armed Forces team to win the title. Gokulam Kerala, in 2019, were the last I-League club to lift the Durand Cup trophy.
