Four DISCOMs Secured A+ Rating In The Latest CSRD Report For Exceptional Consumer Service

In a significant development, four electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have achieved the prestigious A+ rating in the latest Consumer Service Rating of Discoms (CSRD) report. The report, unveiled by Power Minister RK Singh, is a comprehensive evaluation of DISCOMs across the country, aimed at enhancing their accountability towards consumers.

Delhi Dominance: Three A+ Rated DISCOMs

Out of the 62 DISCOMs evaluated, Delhi emerged as the frontrunner, with three companies securing the top A+ rating. The notable achievers include BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL). This recognition reflects their commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and operational efficiency.

Uttar Pradesh’s NPCL Joins the Elite Club

Adding to the accolades, Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) from Uttar Pradesh has also earned an A+ rating, showcasing a dedication to outstanding customer service and operational excellence. This achievement underlines the efforts of DISCOMs in the region to enhance their service quality.

Power Minister’s Vision for a Robust Power Infrastructure

Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, highlighted the significant strides made in strengthening the power infrastructure. He mentioned that the Centre has laid an extensive 1,93,000-kilometer transmission line, completing an integrated grid connecting all transmission lines into one grid.

Transformative Changes in Transmission and Distribution

Singh shared impressive statistics, stating that the transmission capacity has seen a substantial increase from 36,000 megavolts in 2014 to 1,16,000 megavolts. The installation of 7,00,000 new transformers has further fortified the power distribution network. The entire country is now seamlessly connected through a unified grid, allowing the transfer of power across regions.

Rural Electrification and Enhanced Power Supply

Addressing the improvements in rural electrification, Singh emphasized that electricity availability has surged from 12.5 hours in 2014 to an impressive 21-22 hours. He highlighted the challenges faced in the past, including overloading issues, and announced stringent measures against deliberate overloading, including fines under the new law.

Achieving Renewable Energy Goals

Singh also provided insights into the government’s commitment to renewable energy. The target of achieving 40 percent power generation capacity from renewable sources by 2030 was not only met but surpassed in 2021 itself. The Minister stressed the importance of making necessary changes to ensure the green nature of renewable energy.

Remarkable Reduction in AT & C Loss

Singh reported a substantial reduction in Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT & C) losses, which were 27 percent in 2014 and have now been brought down to 15 percent. The minister highlighted a 12 percent reduction in the losses of distribution companies, significantly minimizing the overall deficit from Rs 125,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore.
