GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) Launched by Finance Minister
Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman formally launched the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) in New Delhi, marking a transformative step in India’s indirect tax ecosystem. The establishment of GSTAT strengthens the institutional framework for dispute resolution under GST, offering a uniform, transparent, and efficient appellate mechanism for taxpayers. This launch represents a significant evolution of the GST regime, which has grown over eight years into a robust revenue system and a cornerstone of India’s economic reforms.

GSTAT will consist of a Principal Bench in New Delhi and 31 State Benches across 45 locations across India, ensuring national accessibility.

A major innovation unveiled during the launch is the GSTAT e-Courts Portal, developed by Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) in collaboration with NIC.

To ease the transition, taxpayers can file appeals up to 30 June 2026, allowing ample preparation time for all stakeholders, including MSMEs and individual taxpayers.
By streamlining the appellate process, GSTAT addresses a long-standing gap in the indirect tax framework, ensuring that the tax system is not only efficient but also fair, accessible, and technologically advanced.
