Gujarat CM Launches ‘Asha Van’ Mobile Unit to Boost Early Cancer Detection

Gujarat has taken a major step in strengthening preventive healthcare with the launch of a mobile cancer screening unit called ‘Asha Van’. The unit was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. This special medical van is designed to reach people in villages and remote areas, where access to advanced health facilities is limited. Its main aim is to detect cancer at an early stage so that treatment can begin on time and lives can be saved.

Early diagnosis plays a crucial role in fighting cancer. With Asha Van, people no longer need to travel long distances to cities for basic screening. The service will come directly to their doorstep.

What is Asha Van?

Asha Van is a fully equipped mobile medical unit created for cancer screening and diagnosis. It works like a small hospital on wheels. The van can travel to any location in the State, making it possible to serve rural, tribal, and underserved communities.

This mobile unit is capable of identifying signs of several serious diseases, especially different types of cancer. By offering on-the-spot testing and expert guidance, it reduces delays in diagnosis and improves the chances of successful treatment.

Advanced Medical Treatment Technology on Wheels

The Asha Van is fitted with modern medical tools and systems. It includes:

  • EVA-Pro diagnostic technology
  • A digital mammography machine
  • Teleconsultation facilities for expert advice

With these tools, the van can screen and detect many life-threatening cancers, such as lung, oral, blood, cervical, pancreatic, liver, breast, and prostate cancers. Patients can receive preliminary reports and medical guidance immediately, which is vital for early care.

A Big Boost for Rural Heathcare

One of the biggest benefits of Asha Van is its ability to reach areas far from cities. Many people in rural regions delay medical check-ups due to distance, cost, or lack of awareness. This mobile unit removes those barriers.

The Chief Minister stated that early detection can save lives and help patients return to a normal life with timely treatment. The project supports the national goal of “Health and Wellness for All” and reflects a strong commitment to improving rural healthcare services.

Role of the Indian Red Cross Society

After the inauguration, the Asha Van was handed over to the Bhavnagar branch of the Indian Red Cross Society. The Red Cross will operate the unit for public service across different communities.

The van can screen for up to ten types of cancer and will be sent to various locations to ensure maximum coverage. Representatives from healthcare partners and Red Cross officials were present during the launch, highlighting the collaborative effort behind this initiative.

Long-Term Impact on Public Health

The Chief Minister shared that modern medical science has made early cancer detection highly effective. Mobile units like Asha Van will play a vital role in expanding screening services, especially where hospitals are not easily available.

By bringing advanced diagnostics to villages, this initiative will raise awareness, encourage regular health check-ups, and reduce the burden of late-stage cancer cases. Over time, Asha Van is expected to become a powerful tool in building a healthier and more resilient Gujarat.
